Faulkner has a B.S. in math from Bob Jones University, an M.S. in physics from Clemson University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in astronomy from Indiana University. Dr. Faulkner has been on the faculty of the University of South Carolina, Lancaster, since 1986, where he holds the rank of professor and teaches astronomy and physics. His research interests include stellar astronomy, especially binary stars. Mather, co-recipient of the 2006 Nobel Prize in Physics for providing increased support for the Big Bang theory of the universe, is a senior astrophysicist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. He includes in his talk, the 2007 McCabe Lecture, Einstein's biggest mistake, how Edwin Hubble discovered the expansion of the universe, and NASA's plans for the next great telescope in space, the James Webb Space Telescope.
